The conservative network doesn’t attract a large audience like Fox News, but Newsmax’s ratings surged after the 2020 election. Boeing CEO David Calhoun will step down from the embattled plane maker at the end of the year as part of a broad management shakeup Monday after a series of mishaps at one of America's iconic manufacturers. Stephanie Pope, the company's chief operating officer for less than three months, has taken over leadership of the key division. New York CNN —Boeing CEO David Calhoun’s Wednesday was decidedly a mixed bag: The Federal Aviation Administration finally approved a set of inspection criteria for the 171 grounded 737 Max 9 planes that, if followed, could return the aircraft to service. And the FAA said it would not grant any production expansion of the 737 Max lineup while its safety probe of Boeing continues. “We fly safe planes,” Calhoun said to reporters assembled on Capitol Hill. A week earlier, Calhoun acknowledged the company made a “mistake” at a staff-wide safety meeting, but he did not specify what that mistake was. Two Max variants — the Max 7 and the Max 10 — are still awaiting approval to begin carrying passengers.

The Wells Fargo report, entitled “FAA audit opens up a whole new can of worms,” noted that Boeing’s quality control and engineering problems have been ongoing for years. After part of an Alaska Airlines] 737 Max 9 jet fell off the plane mid-flight, the likelihood of the US Federal Aviation Administration coming out of its investigation without significant findings was very low. The FAA last week opened an investigation into Boeing’s quality control after the Alaska Airlines incident. CNN —The Federal Aviation Administration said on Friday that after reviewing Boeing’s instructions for inspecting grounded 737 Max 9 planes, it has decided to seek more information before allowing the plan to proceed. One hundred and seventy-one of the planes remain grounded in the United States as airlines Alaska and United await updated emergency inspection guidance from the FAA. The FAA said it plans to collect data from the inspection of 40 of the planes using Boeing’s procedures before deciding whether the process will work for the rest of the grounded planes. It’s unclear whether the 40 planes will come from the Alaska Airlines fleet or the United Airlines fleet – the two airlines that fly this model of aircraft – or both. The agency’s latest move comes as the FAA also plans to audit the Boeing 737 Max 9 production line and its suppliers, with a focus on ensuring quality control.

The $27 billion entertainment company wants to add live sports from the National Basketball Association and Major League Baseball to its streaming service, free for a limited time, according to Bloomberg. Boss David Zaslav said on Wednesday at a Goldman Sachs conference that CNN will be available too. Warner Bros unveiled its new streaming service Max, which includes HBO, in April. The industry is packed with competitors, and at $16 a month, Max is already one of the most expensive.

Confirmation of the breach came after Russian-speaking cybercriminals claimed TSMC as a victim on Thursday and demanded an extraordinary $70 million ransom from the semiconductor firm. There were no signs that TSMC or the hardware supplier, Taiwanese firm Kinmax, had any plans to pay the hackers (representatives from both companies didn’t respond to CNN’s questions about any ransom). “After the incident, TSMC has immediately terminated its data exchange with this concerned supplier in accordance with the Company’s security protocols and standard operating procedures,” TSMC said in a statement to CNN. The hackers accessed Kinmax’s internal “testing environment” for the technology it prepares to deliver to customers, Kinmax said in a statement distributed by TSMC. LockBit is the name of the group claiming responsibility for the hack of the TSMC supplier and the type of ransomware they use.

Brigid Berlin, a fixture of the downtown art world in the ’60s and ’70s, will be forever associated with Andy Warhol — the Factory superstar played Duchess, a version of herself as a lesbian drug dealer, in Warhol and Paul Morrissey’s 1966 film “Chelsea Girls” — but three years after her death in 2020, a new exhibition considers Berlin’s art in its own right. “Brigid really was an innovator when you think of the way she used persona as a medium,” says Alison M. CNN —The Federal Aviation Administration initially overrode its own engineers’ recommendations in 2019 to ground the Boeing 737 Max after a second fatal crash, according to a new watchdog report. “Yet Agency officials at Headquarters and the Seattle ACO opted not to do so; instead, they waited for more detailed data to arrive,” the report concluded. The inspector general report, released Friday, recommended the agency update and improve its policies for evaluating crashes and other events. The FAA told the inspector general it would make updates and develop formal training. While awaiting additional data in March 2019, FAA officials issued an official notice backing up their decision to allow the Max to continue flying.
